What is so special about Green Wheel Specialty Coffee?

Green Wheel Coffee is the final expression of a special mix of craft and raw materials coming from one of the most unique places on the planet.

  • Some of the best, 100% Arabica coffee varietals from Colombia.
  • High altitude and non-intensive farms.
  • Handpicked and selected to ensure only red cherries are used.
  • Artisanal processing passed on over generations.
  • Farmers are payed up to 50% more for their produce vs. market prices.
  • Nano batch roasting (less than 10kg at a time) with pre and post processing quality controls.
  • Small volume packaging to maximize freshness after opening.
  • 2% of proceeds go to social and environmental programs in Colombia: “Acompañame a la Escuela” and Reforestation
  • According to the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), coffee which scores 80 points or above on a 100-point scale is graded "specialty." Specialty coffees are grown in special and ideal climates and are distinctive because of their full cup taste and little to no defects. The unique flavors and tastes are a result of the special characteristics and composition of the soils in which they are produced.

Is Green Wheel Coffee Arabica?

Yes, all Green Wheel coffee varietals are 100% Colombian Arabicas.

In our bags you will find what kind of Arabica coffee you are purchasing as there are  many different types.

Why do you sell only in whole beans?

We only sell whole beans to preserve our coffees’ freshness, flavors and aromas. Like many organic produce, coffee oxidizes when in contact with the oxygen in air. When coffee is ground, the surface area in contact with air is multiplied exponentially in comparison to beans and hence, the negative impact is also increased.

Where from Colombia do you source your coffee?

We source our coffee from various parts of Colombia as long as it meets our rigorous quality standards. We seek to develop long lasting relationships with our coffee growers that will result in benefits for everyone, from you our customer to the farmer, his family and the community and environment he lives in.

How long does a coffee bag last un-opened?

You should try to consume coffee within the first 3 months after its roast date. After this, it won’t be bad, but it’s flavors and aromas will be significantly diminished vs. coffee that is only a few weeks “old”. Of course, this process is a continuous one that begins as soon as coffee is roasted, so the sooner you drink it, the better.

What is the best way to preserve my coffee?

The best way to preserve your coffee without going into crazy and intricate solutions is keeping it away from air, moisture and light. So, once you open you bag, try to press the air from the bottom up before resealing, store in a cool, dry place. A cupboard in your kitchen that is not exposed to sunlight or big temperature variations should do. Don’t keep it in the fridge or freezer as this will cause condensation on the coffee when you take it out.

What do you offer in your coffee course?

Our coffee course is intended for people interested in drinking better coffee but who haven’t had previous training or would like to refresh the basics. We aim to show you that this can be done in a simple and fun manner, so we will be focusing on methods that don’t require sophisticated nor expensive machines and focus on filter coffee. It will be a hands-on course where you’ll get to try out what we cover right away. Join in, learn how easy it can be and enjoy great tasting coffee for the rest or your life! Then go out and wow your friends and family with your newly acquired coffee skills.

Why is your coffee course so cheap in comparison to others in the area?

Our course only costs this little because our main interest is to show more people simple, fun and inexpensive ways of drinking better coffee, not to make money out of the courses. The proceeds from your participation help us cover the expenses incurred in them.

How can I subscribe to your coffee course?

Just follow the instructions and link in our webpage and select a slot that is convenient for you. You will receive a confirmation via email a few days prior to the selected date. Payment will be done in cash at the course itself and remember that you will also leave with a bag of GreenWheel Coffee upon completion.

Can I give the course to someone else?

Yes of course, great idea! Just make sure that this special person can come on the specific date so that we don't hold up a spot that could be used for some one else.

What causes do you support and why?

We support a foundation called "acompáñame a la escuela".

A program led by a group of businesses that have as an objective to reduce the amount of kids in rural areas that don't attend school due to not having the means of transportation to get there.

The foundation donates bicycles and shoes to many of these kids reducing the barriers to attend.

Education is at the core of our business and this is an additional way to enable our vision to materialise.

How much do you donate?

We ensure that 1% of our yearly profit is donated to this specific cause.

We are also in the process of contracting with a reforestation company in Colombia to which we will donate another 1%.

What is Pledge 1%?

Its a movement that ensures companies, big or small pledge to a cause, such as "acompáñame a la escuela" and stick to their pledge.
